Aurèlia, Amèlia i Carles
July 2017/ ENA (Escena Nacional d'Andorra)
Aurèlia, Amèlia i Carles is a performance created from local news stories by fictionalising a live radio programme. It is an interactive street performance that exists somewhere between reality and fiction, bringing together the abstraction of movement, performed by two dancers, with current affairs mediated by a radio presenter, generating multiple new interpretations of both movement and journalistic material.
The piece is written instantly, in the very place where it takes place. The Detectives arrive three days before the performance, collect the local newspapers, select the material that will shape the work, and create the script.
To do this, we choose local news stories—usually human-interest or local incident reports—that speak primarily about the people and the peculiarities of the place. From these, we select headlines and excerpts that become the basis and define the structure of the performance. We then play with manipulating them and combining them with our physical and humorous practices, as well as with the dynamics between the performers and the audience.
The result is a participatory performance created specifically for the place and the audience that welcomes us.
